The number of the workforce in August 2020 was 6.21 million, an increase of 170 thousand compared to August 2019. In line with the increase in the number of the workforce, the Labor Force Participation Rate (TPAK) also increased by 0.65 percentage points.

The open unemployment rate (TPT) in August 2020 was 10.64 percent or as many as 661 thousand people, which means an increase of 2.53 percentage points or an increase of 171 thousand people compared to August 2019.

The working population of 5.55 million people, decreased by 282 people from August 2019. The jobs that experienced the largest percentage increase were the Trade Sector (1.81 percentage points) and Agriculture (1.77 percentage points). Meanwhile, other sectors experienced a decline, especially the Manufacturing Industry Sector (3.35 percentage points), Government Administration (0.88 percentage points), and Educational Services (0.35 percentage points).

A total of 2.73 million people (49.17 percent) worked in informal activities, an increase of 7.04 percentage points compared to August 2019. During the past year (August 2019-August 2020), the percentage of formal workers fell by 7.04 percentage points.

In the past year, the percentage of underemployed workers increased by 5.01 percentage points, and the percentage of part-time workers increased by 4.44 percentage points.

There are 1.84 million people affected by Covid-19 or 19.18 percent. Consisting of unemployment due to Covid-19 (205 thousand people), BAK due to Covid-19 (28 thousand people), temporarily unemployed due to Covid-19 (103 thousand people), and working residents who experienced reduced working hours due to Covid-19 ( 1.51 million people).
